The Commission for Smart Government held an evidence session on Tuesday 2 March 2021, where Commissioners put questions to Karl Salgo, Executive Director Public Governance and Institutions at Canada's Institute on Governance.

The session examined Canada's use of published mandate letters to set a strategic agenda for the government, and how it is held to account for its performance in delivering on its agenda.

Commissioners present included Lord Herbert (Chair), Lord Bichard, Baroness Cavendish, Sir Ian Cheshire and Baroness Stuart. Also in attendance were the Commission’s Research Director Martin Wheatley and Project Director Sophie Miremadi.
